Natal Chart Construction

There are many different approaches to constructing a natal chart. Some elements, like the sign and degree of each planet, are the same across most Western astrological systems; others, particularly the arrangement of House boundaries (1st house, 2nd house, etc.), can vary.

The Pattern charts use the ancient and venerable “Whole House” system, and was carefully chosen as the best approach for our astrological interpretations.

The “Whole House” system assigns an entire zodiac sign to each house, meaning every house is exactly 30 degrees, while the “Placidus” system divides houses unevenly based on mathematical calculations, resulting in houses that can be larger or smaller than 30 degrees, with planets potentially falling within multiple signs in a single house.

There is a chance that our system is not accounting for daylight savings at your time of birth properly. By adjusting your birth time in the app either one hour ahead or behind, it is likely the issue will be resolved.

If you need any further assistance, we invite you to contact us again with further details, to include your birth information and username to help us locate your account.

Timezone Offset

A Timezone Offset is the difference in hours and minutes between the timezone where you were born and Universal Time (GMT). We set this to what we believe is correct for your birth city and date, but we can't always be 100% certain, especially for people born before 1970. If you believe we've chosen the wrong offset, you can adjust it here.
