Chapter 1 Free:
At the Pattern, we see the moon cycle as a micro hero's journey that you can track and co-create with every month. Each phase represents a symbolic framework for personal transformation and emotional growth.

The New Moon, like the hero's call to adventure, marks the beginning of the journey. As the cycle progresses, metaphorically you might encounter dragons to slay, you could stumble, enter the underworld and then rise again.

This process is a way to grow and consciously participate with your own personal evolution. and each month is a blank slate and a chance to start again.

In essence, the moon's monthly voyage provides a template or a mirror for your own larger life story. It's a powerful tool for self-reflection and emotional growth, and a monthly invitation to align with the universal rhythm of change and to courageously embrace your own personal hero's journey.

By engaging with this cosmic timing, you can tap into a profound source of psychological resilience and self-discovery.

Just in the way that we see where the planets were at the time of your birth and how they move through the constellations as a better way to understand you, your personality, and your own patterns in life, there's something elemental and consistent about the phases of the moon, which makes them a great tool for personal growth.

At the Pattern we see this process as a way to consciously participate with our own personal evolution, along with the four critical or key phases of the moon cycle each month.

Each week, we're going to explain the purpose of each phase as seen through the lens of its archetype. Think of this weekly series as a tool, this structure helping you to check in with yourself, week to week, month to month, in collaboration with the phases of the moon.

We're going to be doing it as a community, so we're all in it together. We hope that you join us, because each month is a blank slate and it's a chance to start a new journey of self-discovery and understanding.

Chapter 2:

So what is the New Moon? The New Moon occurs when the moon is exactly in line with the Sun, what we call a conjunction, meaning it's right next to it. It's like the moon disappears from the night sky because it isn't reflecting any sunlight.

The darkness leaves a blank spot; a void in the sky, and this opens up a door. It creates space to set intentions that will grow throughout the moon's journey that month and come to a head at the Full Moon.

Each month, the New Moon offers a a fresh start, a blank slate to forget the past and start again, and it's a chance to set intentions before you venture into the unknown. And emotionally, it encourages you to open yourself up to new possibilities and listen to the call of your inner self and that guidance, that intuition.

And the idea during a New Moon is to evaluate your relationship with the archetype that the moon is in when it's new, and to reflect on the energy of that archetype within you. This means thinking consciously about how you want to embrace the highest expression of that archetype. It's also when you may need to confront and heal its shadows, or the unhealthy expression of that archetype.

So, for example, if the New Moon is in Cancer, it's about evaluating your relationship with Cancer, and the archetype of Cancer is all about sensitivity and emotions and caretaking.

So there's the light and the shadow of that, and during the New Moon, you have an opportunity to evaluate your relationship with that archetype and set an intention about where you are and where you want to get to by the end of the month.

Setting intentions can be as simple as sitting quietly for a minute and saying in your mind or out loud what it is you want to manifest. Or you can create an actual ritual or do a New Moon ceremony by going to a sacred space, lighting candles, and writing down your intentions.

Whatever you choose to do, the importance here is that you're being conscious and aware as you're energetically putting out some hope that month, and you want to be clear on what it is you hope for.

And this is a great moment to look at your chart and see if the degree of the New Moon is in line with any of your planets or angles. If so, then this New Moon will be very personal to you. For example, if the New Moon is exactly conjunct your Descendant, this could be a meaningful month for you around long-term relationships.

Knowing that and looking at the month through that lens brings the possibility to change the course of what this month is like for you. Now you can also check the house position of the New Moon in your chart. For example, if the New Moon is in Leo and your ascendant is in Taurus, then the New Moon is affecting your Fourth house, or the area of home and family.

And you can check out the Astrology 101 collection to learn about the houses. And if anything in here is confusing, just go to that collection on the Discover page.

It's called Astrology 101 and there's all kinds of audios and information that are free and they're there to help you better understand the astrology world.

There's an audio dedicated to the houses. So if you want to learn more about that, that's a good piece of content to check out. Because each house has a unique meaning, which can help you to understand how the house position might impact you personally.

Paying attention to these details helps you to walk through the whole month with awareness, so that you can work on what's relevant to you and grow and evolve.

And that's what this whole journey is about. Because as you move through the rest of the moon cycle, you might run into challenges, but they're giving you the chance to build yourself back up so that you emerge with wisdom and understanding about yourself and your path.

And then at the next New Moon, you get to start again.

Chapter 3:

What is the First Quarter Moon? The First Quarter Moon occurs one week after the New Moon. So it's the next stop in the journey. And this time is meant to bring up some activity around the intention you set at the New Moon. For some people, the first quarter energy reinforces their intention. For others, they may confront challenges because the First Quarter Moon represents the chance for growth.

The intention of it is to support you to face your fears, build resilience, and continue to move towards your goals, even if there are challenges. Psychologically, this phase represents the development of your inner strength and resources. In a way, the First Quarter Moon is asking you to evaluate the intentions you set, and it's a moment to work towards your objectives, but also to do a reality check.

Were your intentions driven by a deep sense of meaning, or were they created from a more superficial place, that's not really aligned for you? Because the challenges might be about rethinking your intentions that maybe there was a misalignment. Challenges can often be the best advice and they're often guiding us when one door shuts it opens another.

So this would be a good moment to check the degree of the First Quarter Moon and its house position in your chart, because those areas could be where the challenges might occur or appear, but often it's very related to the intentions you set around the New Moon or wherever there might be shadow around them.

So if you're feeling positive during the quarter moon, things are moving along, just enjoy it. This is great. This positive energy is just supporting the fact that you're aligned with your goals and it's a good time to remain committed to working on them. Now, if you notice the path you're following isn't getting the results you expected, this could be a moment to face those realities regarding your choices.

Because you're a week into the journey, but it's also a week before the Full Moon. So this time can be a chance to gain deeper insight into your motivations, to evaluate, to change course, and to better understand why you're facing challenges, and make important changes by recognizing what is and isn't working.

And don't be afraid to let go of something, and make pretty radical changes at this time period. If that's what feels right, this is the time to do it. Because the First Quarter Moon is an important step in the journey. It's when you confront and confirm your intentions. So don't be afraid to step up and defend what you want, if you feel it's still authentic for you.

But also know that you can change your mind, and see the results of these changes at the Full Moon, in one week's time.

Chapter 4:

What is a Full Moon? The Full Moon is when the moon is directly opposite the Sun. And so the moon is fully illuminated by its light. It's also a culmination point for the intentions you set around the New Moon. But additionally, there's the energy of the archetype the Full Moon is in. So those themes have to be considered.

And it's almost like they're blended at the Full Moon, and it's a heightened time. The Full Moon is the climax of the lunar cycle. And it represents the hero's central ordeal, and this intense phase illuminates your inner world, and it's often bringing revelations and realizations. Like the hero facing their deepest fear or flaw, you're being encouraged to confront and express your emotions - a crucial step for self-understanding and authenticity.

Now the Full Moon brings these issues to your attention by shining a light on the theme of the Full Moon's archetype. So this time is about blending the energies of both archetypes, the New Moon's and the Full Moon's. It's a moment to be honest with yourself without judgment, so that you can realign and move forward for the rest of the month with clarity.

The underlying message of every Full Moon is to help you come home to yourself and just know that everyone is experiencing this energy. So if you feel extra emotional or there's more feelings coming up, this is very natural during a Full Moon.

To find out whether the Full Moon will be especially personal to you, you can check the degree and the sign of the moon against your planets and angles in your Natal Chart.

So Full Moon times have a reputation for being intense or even extreme, but that's only because they are moments of expansion and magnified perception. The intention is to become aware of how you've been handling these archetypal themes and notice any places where you might have fallen into shadow behavior, meaning the stuff that you might keep hidden from yourself unconsciously. Often during a Full Moon, that's when it gets triggered. That's when it's alive, that's when it's revealed.

Because Full Moons can emphasize shadow behaviors. It's ratcheting everything up, but there's nothing to fear. If you can be aware of your shadows, you can confront and heal them. And if you're lying to yourself, the Full Moon will reveal it.

And that is a gift, even though it may not feel like it in the moment. Now, the other side of the Full Moon is that it's also going to expand your healthy behaviors, personal growth, and feelings of accomplishment. If you feel that you are in alignment with your true self, there's often a feeling of more confidence and expansion.

It can be a really joyous time to feel alive and to celebrate and enjoy your life and who you are. So if you're happy with the intentions you set at the New Moon, those choices are going to be magnified during a Full Moon. And if the Full Moon does feel overwhelming, try not to be hard on yourself.

Because this is an incredible moment to have compassion for yourself and know the New Moon and a whole new Hero's Journey is just around the corner. For the rest of the month you'll have time to process and understand the challenges you've confronted, and the large and small ways that your life has changed during this lunar cycle.

Chapter 5:

The Last Quarter Moon comes one week after the Full Moon. And the purpose of this phase is integration. It's a moment to assess how you've grown since the New Moon and look at the wisdom you've gained during the cycle. And it's also a chance to just let go of whatever behaviors, mindsets, habits, or patterns have served their purpose and no longer apply to who you're becoming.

You are allowed to change. You don't have to be attached to the person you were even a day ago, a week ago, two weeks ago. Time is very relative and it can feel like you don't even know who that person is anymore. The Last Quarter Moon phase signifies a time of reflection, a chance to share wisdom, and a moment to release what no longer serves you.

Like the hero integrating the newfound knowledge in their life, you're being prompted to process your experiences, heal, and prepare for a new cycle. During this phase, you don't necessarily need to do anything, but sometimes looking back at where you were at the beginning of the month can give you a new appreciation for what you've overcome and how you've evolved.

If you wrote down intentions at the New Moon, this could be a good time to review them. So if the previous three weeks were challenging, or just felt overwhelming, again, try not to be hard on yourself. Remember that everything you've worked on over the lunar cycle, whether or not it has provided the results you expected, the intention is that the journey itself has been helping you to move forward.

And it may not be until the Quarter Moon that you even realize what has been holding you back. And if you still feel confused or upset or there's no clarity, that's okay, there's time. These things could be revealed in the future. It's really just about going through it with awareness, because moving that way energetically in lockstep with the universe has the potential to bring powerful manifestation into your life.

To find out whether the Last Quarter Moon will be especially personal to you, check the degree and the sign of the moon against your planets and angles in your Natal Chart.

Finally, a week after the Last Quarter Moon, the subsequent New Moon represents rebirth and the start of a whole new journey.

Emotionally and psychologically, this is a reminder of life's continuous cycle of growth and renewal and an opportunity to start over with a blank slate once again.
